On Loving Women is a collection of stories about first love and sexual identity by the Montreal-based animator and cartoonist. You may remember Diane's work from 2009's Kaspar.
In these pages, Diane shares diaristic pieces that are altogether more intimate: her friends' and lovers' personal accounts of coming out, of first crushing on another girl or woman, of first kisses and first heartbreaks.
But don't just trust me on how compelling and charming On Loving Women is. The magnificent Ellen Forney wrote a just-about-perfect blurb for the book:
"On Loving Women is in turns wistful, sexy, goofy, bittersweet, frank, and adorable. Diane Obomsawin's deceptively simple lifework and straightforward writing style capture the breathless sweetness of holding another girl's hand for the first time, and the happy, lusty intimacy of a virginity-ending, drunken threesome. Delightful."
On Loving Women will be in stores across North America on Tuesday February 18th. Buy this one for a special someone for V Day or just buy it for yourself and wash the mid-February blahs away. Finally, speaking of February blahs, Montreal, we've got some news that will warm you right up:
Join us Thursday February 20th at the Librairie D+Q (211 Bernard O). We're delighted to have Diane Obomsawin presenting On Loving Women. It promises to be a lovely evening.
